Dublin Cycling Campaign statement on the death of Dr Vicky Conway

Dublin, 20 July 2022 - With deep sadness, Dublin Cycling Campaign learned this morning of the death of Dr Vicky Conway, Associate Professor of Law at Dublin City University.

Dr Vicky Conway’s career was at all times focused on solidarity and inclusion, challenging power, pursuing justice, and realising transformative change. At all times, human rights were central to her work. Her work has changed Ireland for the better, and her legacy will see that continue.

Dr Conway’s work and expertise on policing was unparalleled in analysing An Garda Síochána’s powers, functions and operations. Her work included her membership on the Policing Authority, the Policed Podcast where Dr Conway dealt sensitively with issues affecting those who cycle together with her research on the workings of the Coroner’s Court in Ireland. She also brought her knowledge to so many other legal and Constitutional issues affecting Irish society, such as Lawyers for Choice.

Dublin Cycling Campaign wishes to extend our deepest condolences to Dr Conway’s family and loved ones.

May she rest in peace.
