Dublin Cycling Campaign 2023 Annual Members’ Meeting - A Refreshed Committee

Dublin Cycling Campaign held a well attended and stimulating Annual Members’ Meeting (AMM) on Thursday 9th November 2023 in the Charlemont Clayton Hotel.

There were around 50 of our members attending, between in person and online delegates. There was a positive and bubbly atmosphere at the meeting, with both new faces and existing members (who have been active for 10+ years) sharing their thoughts on the cycle campaigning issues and priorities of the day.

We heard presentations from our outgoing Chair, Ellen Cullen, our Treasurer, Paschal Comerford, our National Cycling Coordinator, Dr. Damien Ó Tuama and the Chairperson of the Board of Dublin Cycling Campaign CLG / Cyclist.ie, Mairéad Forsythe (pictured above). There has been a mountain of campaigning work and events organised over the last year for which attendees thanked the outgoing Executive Committee. There was also an acknowledgement that our organisation urgently needs to secure far more funding so as to grow our team and make a bigger impact. Ellen also stressed the point that we are all Dublin Cycling Campaign, not just the Committee and change will only happen if we all take action to ensure it does. Attendees also expressed their sorrow on the death of the Brazilian woman, Josilaine Ribeiro, at Dolphin’s Barn Bridge on Monday last - she was killed in a collision between a truck and her electric bicycle as reported on here.

The AMM of Dublin Cycling Campaign took place at a time of major transition in the organisation where Dublin Cycling Campaign CLG / Cyclist.ie is nearing the end of a long governance and restructuring journey. This work will give rise to a bigger, more cohesive, more effective and efficient national organisation. We will be keeping our members informed of the final stages of this process very soon.

Following the AMM, we now have a refreshed and renewed Executive Committee. We are delighted to announce that the new Chair of Dublin Cycling Campaign is Úna Morrison. Úna has been on the DCC Committee for the last three years and has a background in communications and marketing. Siobhán McNamara will continue as Vice-Chair, Paschal Comerford will continue as Treasurer, while the Secretary position will now be run with Ellen Cullen and Karl Stanley sharing the duties. We’ll post more details on the full Committee membership here very soon.

All in all, the 2023 Annual Members’ Meeting brought a new energy to the organisation which bodes well for 2024, a year that’s set to bring Local, European and (possibly also) General Elections - which in turn will provide significant opportunities for advocates to give sustainable transport issues more priority. Do please get in touch with us if there are any issues which you think you can help us to advance.
