Dublin Cycling Campaign – Annual Members’ Meeting 2026 – Report

In this article, Miren-Maialen Mc Donald, a member of Dublin Cycling Campaign’s Executive Committee and a lead organiser of the Community Garden Cycle, reflects on the 2026 DCC Annual Members Meeting.

Dublin Cycling Campaign’s Annual Members Meeting (AMM) 2026 was a well attended event, in spite of the less than ideal weather on the night. It took place in the Academy Plaza Hotel on Thursday 13 February 2026. We were extremely grateful to Peter Collins from I Bike Dublin for his support on the night.

Siobhan McNamara, Vice-Chair of Dublin Cycling Campaign (DCC), gave an overview of our activities over the last 12 months. Events highlighted by Siobhan since the last AMM, included the following:

  • Bike Week 2025 in all four Local Authorities
  • Biodiversity Week 2025 events, including the Community Garden Cycle
  • Bike Parking at Bloom in the Phoenix Park (thanks in particular here to Una Morrisson for her support with that event)
  • Bikes for Mayors initiative in the four Local Authorities
  • Brigit by Bike (and thanks to Cllr Donna Cooney for all leadership with this)
  • Six public meetings took place in 2025 and the topics included: organising cycling events, pedal powered volunteering, Dublin City’s Active Travel network, cycling related social enterprises, Dublin Region Active Travel Dashboard, Dublin City Council Mobility and Public Realm Strategic Policy Committee (SPC).
  • Light Up Your Bike campaign in the four local authorities
  • Social events such as “Meet my Bike” in June
  • Christmas party with Dublin Commuter Coalition in December 2025
  • Rose Festival Bike Parking in St Anne’s Park
  • Our participation in the Global Green area of the Electric Picnic.

Over the course of 2025, there was special emphasis on campaigning for default 30km/hour speed limits in urban areas. This included the Love 30 campaign rally for “Safer Urban Road Speeds” which took place outside Leinster House on the 2nd of October 2025.

Throughout 2025, Dublin Cycling Campaign (through being a Local Group of Irish Cycling Campaign) worked with other organisations/networks, such as with the Climate and Health Alliance on their development of the “Active Travel – the Magic Pill” report (with Will Andrews from Dublin Cycling Campaign contributing heavily to this) and with the Stop Climate Chaos march in October 2025.

Siobhán’s presentation was followed by one from Sandra Velthuis, Chairperson of the Board of Irish Cycling Campaign (ICC). Sandra reminded everyone of the role of the ICC Board and its new composition – see here. She noted that the ICC Board met eight times in 2025.

Sandra was followed by Damien Ó Tuama who provided an update on behalf of the ICC Executive Committee about activities at a national level over the same period. This included the Shared Island meetings (for the project entitled “Cycling across borders – exchanging know-how between cycling advocacy organisations North and South”), and our two Gatherings held in Limerick and Drogheda in 2025.

For the next part of the meeting, we opened up the floor to find out what everyone in the room saw as their own highlights in 2025. These included the (just published) non-statutory plans for College Green, other developments in the Dublin City Council area and the other three Local Authorities, and the importance of all of our strong media contributions through the year on cycling issues.

Everyone offered their huge congratulations to the members of the 2025 DCC Executive Committee (and the wider membership) for their hard work during the year. It is very much appreciated!

The new Dublin Cycling Campaign Executive Committee was then formally elected.

If you are keen to volunteer with Dublin Cycling Campaign, but are unsure how best to do so please do reach out via https://www.dublincycling.com/cycling/contact. And if anyone has expertise in fund-raising or graphic designing, we would be particularly interested to hear from you!

Onwards and upwards for 2026!
