Closing rights of way for cycling and walking in Fingal

A recent motion by Cllr Graves to close off rights of way for cycling and walking through Glasmore estate was submitted to Fingal County Council. The Council has received two petitions in support of and opposing the closure of the laneways in Glasmore Park. In order to carry out an extinguishment, it would require the Councillors to agree to the commencement of the formal statutory process.

From the photos you can see the same lane looking towards Dunnes. This lane nicely aligns with pedestrian lights across the Rathbeale across to Dunnes. It has been in use for nearly 50 years. Heavily used by pedestrians and some bikes every day. Fingal Cycling Campaign is concerned with removal of rights of way for cycling and walking when its already so difficult to find safe routes to go to the shops, schools and workplace already. Also during a Climate emergency to suggest removing access for active travel modes is counter productive to Ireland commitments to the Paris climate agreement and the promise to reduce carbon emissions.
