Cyclist.ie comments on 'Rules of the Road' guidance

The Campaign contributed recently to this Cyclist.ie submission to the Road Safety Authority seeking improvement in the 'Rules of the Road' guidance document and driver training.

A central point made is that close and fast overtaking of cyclists by motor vehicles is a major problem. The concept of the cyclist 'commanding the lane' to prevent unsafe overtaking must be promoted strongly by the RSA. This idea has recently been incorporated into their policy, in a series of 'safe cycling' videos, and we're strongly supporting its widespread advertisement, with enforcement back-up.
