The Dublin Cycling Campaign is an independent, voluntary lobby group that has been working to improve the city for all cyclists for over a decade and a half.
The Future of Cycling in Dublin
The Dublin Cycling Campaign is keeping a close eye on a number of cycle network review projects that will determine the future of cycling in Dublin. The largest of these is a Cycle Network study of the Greater Dublin Area, including all of County Dublin, North Wicklow, and parts of Counties Meath and Kildare. The NTA has appointed consultants Roughan O Donovan, and AECOM to carry out an assessment of existing cycling facilities and all proposed projects from Local Authorities. Mikael Colville Andersen, of Cycle Chic fame and Copenhagenize consulting has also been brought on board as an adviser. The Campaign met with the consultants and the National Transport Authority (NTA) in September, to discuss progress. When this data has been collated and analysed a presentation will be made to the Campaign on DRAFT proposals.
Together with this major network study, there are a large number of cycling projects both in development and under construction in the Greater Dublin Area. Dublin City alone has at least 25 projects ongoing! These include a review of cycling facilities along the Liffey Quays from Heuston to Dublin Port, and proposals for a Dodder Valley greeway.
Watch out in your area for any notices or meetings in relation to developments, and help the Campaign to make informed decisions on these developments.
