Check out the approach to the Eastlink Bridge. National Toll Roads have put up Cyclists Dismount signs.
- These are not in the 1997 Traffic Signs Regulations. This Cyclists prohibited sign has no basis in Irish Law.
- It is typically not safe to dismount at the place the signs have been put.
- What is the justification for this on a short stretch of typical two-lane road with no junctions or anything else which would suggest that cyclists should be prohibited. The Bridge obviously lifts but the barriers come down before this happens.
- Note that the footpaths are very narrow so that encouraging large numbers of cyclists to walk over the bridge with their bicycles will increase the risks to pedestrians.
