Here are some photos from the roundabout between Blanchardstown Rd. and Ongar Rd. in Blanchardstown.

Firstly, note that all the cycle tracks are a substandard 1.2 m wide or less.

This is Blanchardstown Road Northbound just before the roundabout with Ongar Road. Note the following:

  • There is a pole in the cycle track.
  • The track ends and then starts two metres later. Do they really expect cyclists to dismount, walk two metres and then remount again.
  • The cycle track sweeps off to the left.

In fact, all the cycle tracks on all the arms of this roundabout assume that all the cyclists only ever turn left at this roundabout. There is no provision for cyclists who might want to go straight on or right.

See below the cycle track on the far side of the road, i.e. Blanchardstown Rd, Southbound just after the roundabout with Ongar Rd. Note the three cycle track signs and the pole in the cycle track. The cycle lane stops, starts again 2 metres later and then stops again abruptly in the middle of the pavement for no apparent reason.
