2008-10-19 North Campshires

This post will highlight a selection of the problems found on a single day along the length of the North Campshires Cycle Track on a single day going from the Point to the Custom House. A few of these problems have since been repaired although the cycle track is still unusable for most journeys while complying with the rules of the road.

At the roundabout at the Point the Eastbound track ends abruptly on the wrong side of the street just before the roundabout with no way of crossing the street.

Going West you quickly get to a building site. An engineer has obviously done his risk assessments and come up with a plan...

But did it work in practice?

Further along you get to this sign for a detour. The pedestrians are also detoured straight into the oncoming cycle track.

Further along the paving material changes but the cycle track continues. There are no ramps in the cycle track but there is a large sign warning cyclists of rams and limiting their speed to 30 kmph. A more appropriate sign would surely be "CAUTION: BARRELS"

More barrels and warnings. This cyclist has given up and gone back to the street.

Then once the barrels end the cycle lane abruptly ends. This is presumably because of the lifting bridge. This is typical of cycle tracks. They appear where they're not needed and disappear where they might be needed.

The track gets going again just beyond the bride but then abruptly ends a. Note the bollards, lack of a dropped kerb and continuous parking blocking access to the street.

Straight after the restaurant it starts again. Note again the bollards, lack of dropped kerb and parked cars. The dropped kerb has since been added.

And finally, it ends again, this time to make way for the Dublin Docklands Development Authority Headquarters.
