Friend of Dublin Cycling Campaign placed a Ghostbike at the scene of the collision on Saturday 14th of November. The following text and poem were placed on the bike along with flowers.

Karl McGee was family man, a gentleman, an honest man, a man of great integrity, compassion and full of laughter.

He loved his family, his friends, his workmates and his new bike – which he had for exactly one week and on which he was killed on his way to work on Tuesday September 15th 2009.

He was happy and contented, happy at home and at work. He had no interest in wealth or material things. His only needs were his loved ones, his books, his camera and his bike.

Since his death so many people have said how much they admired and respected this quiet unassuming man and the way he lived his life.

He left his home happy, going to a job he was happy in and on his new bike – he died a happy man with no regrets.

His broken hearted family have huge regrets, and cannot imagine life without this most wonderful man. We will never forget him and will never stop loving him, we will always be grateful to him for the love he selflessly lavished on us and the way he shaped our lives.

Rest in peace my darling,

Love Trudie, Laura and Conor

A life made beautiful by kindly deeds,

A helping hand to others' needs,

To a beautiful life came a sudden end,

He died as he lived, everyone's friend.

We miss your smile, your joking ways,

We miss the things you used to say,

And when old times we do recall,

Its then we miss you most of all.

Rest In Peace Karl.

Martina, a workmate
