Some examples of recent successes:

Removal of bull-bars from SUVs/4x4s

The Campaign and Cyclist.ie lobbied the Department of Transport and the Road Safety Authority to have bull-bars removed from SUVs/4x4s. The RSA confirmed in a letter in May 2009 that the NCT would be used to detect and remove bull-bars from vehicles unless they met CE standards.

National Cycling Policy

The Campaign had a leading role in preparing the detailed submission to the Minister for Transport about his call for submissions about a National Cycling Policy initiative. The Minister published his proposals in April 2009, and most of what we had sought is now offical governmenrt policy towards vulnerable road users.

But there have been lots of smaller successes along the way! For instance, Colm Moore got agreement from his local Garda station to conduct a surevy of illegally parked cars in bike lanes during restricted period of operation.

The Opposition Are Also at Work!

Don't forget that the 'opposition' are also at work trying to undermine or blunt your lobbying! The opposition for cyclists are some or all of the following groups:

  • IBEC
  • Dublin Chamber
  • The AA
  • The Irish Road Hauliers Association

No response- What next?

Good luck and keep in touch!
