Opening of New Shannon Erne blueway from Leitrim Village to Drumshambo

A joint initiative between Waterways Ireland and Leitrim Tourism to develop trails for walking, cycling, kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding from Drumshanbo to Carrick-on-Shannon. The Shannon Blueway will be the first inland blueway in Ireland with plans to extend the route from Carrick-on-Shannon to Lough Key Forest Park and onto Boyle, from Leitrim Village to Kilclare, and down the line from Carrick to Rooskey. A new cyclepath along the canal connecting Leitrim Village to Lough Allen in Drumshambo will be open in a few weeks time potentially mid to late summer. Next month at the end of May finishing touches will be added to an almost complete pontoon that will cross Acres lake to connect to the other side of the canal heading to Drumshambo, this new fully segregated greenway beside a Blueway will be an extra bonus for tourists visiting the area. Electric bike trails run by Seamus and Eileen in Leitrim village said it will be a great asset to the many trails available already in the area. http://www.electricbiketrails.com/
