It's Official - Bicycles are the Future of Transport!

The theme of the 2016 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin is “Imagine If” and it’s all about the future. What type of future can we expect and, crucially, what type of future do we want to create for future generations?

It makes complete sense then that Dublin Cycling Campaign has been invited back into the parade (for a 7th year in succession) because we all know that bicycles will be at the heart of everyday mobility both in the near and far futures! What other vehicle improves your health and those around you as you use it? What other form of transport is potentially available to pretty much everyone on the planet? It is only the bicycle and other pedal powered forms that are truely sustainable on an increasingly shakey earth!

To celebrate the amazingness of bicycles, Dublin Cycling Campaign is putting together a stellar team of creatives who are planning our cycling presence. As soon as / if funding is approved, this will include an Artistic Director and Bicycle Choreographer to help shape our plans.

As in previous years, we will be looking for participants to join us. We will announce details here very soon, hopefully by Thursday 18th February, just four weeks before the Parade. At this point, we expect we will be seeking people with particularly interesting bikes, especially child and load carrying velos. We will also be asking that those who want to take part with us need to commit to participating whatever the weather, and that they are able to make themselves available for a practice/training session of our routine a few days in advance of the parade (possibly on Sunday 13th March, time and location to be decided). We are also asking that those wishing to participate are paid-up members of Dublin Cycling Campaign - if you are not yet a member, join today and support our tireless work!
