Fancy a date with your TD? How about the 15th November?

With their friends in Stop Climate Chaos coalition, Cyclist.ie will be hosting a mass lobby of TDs on Tuesday 15th November from 11am-7pm in Buswells Hotel, Dublin, 2, right opposite the Dáil.

This is an opportunity for you to meet with your TDs and ask them to do their part to ensure the Irish government honors its international climate change commitments.

You can send an email invitation to your local TDs asking them to meet you in Buswells Hotel on the 15th by following this link to the Stop Climate Chaos website.

Please share this link with your friends and family to encourage them to meet their TDs by taking the action too!

The focus of the day is the challenges and opportunities for Ireland in the rapid and just transition to a carbon free future that is now imperative. The Government has set a national transition objective of an 80% reduction in emissions between transport, energy and buildings and carbon neutrality for agriculture by 2050. Stop Climate Chaos believes this is the least we need to do our fair share to achieve the goals of the landmark Paris Agreement, which is about to come into force, to limit global warming to less than 2C. Read more here.

Transport contributes massively to Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions but there is scant evidence that any serious actions to decarbonise everyday travel is underway on the scale required to meet international commitments. Our recent #allocate4cycling protest in Dublin demanded greater funding for cycling on the grounds of economics, health, climate action, energy consumption and mobility.

Stop Climate Chaos Briefing on the Ratification of the Paris Agreement

Achieving the goals of the Smarter Travel policy

Transport is the only sector where are emissions are still higher than they were in 1990. They almost tripled from between 1990 and 2007. They are rising again quickly now.

We are calling on the Government to commit the resources needed to achieve the goals of the Smarter Travel Policy for 2020. That means at least 20% of transport funding to go to walking and cycling and at least 50% of transport funding to go to public transport.

We think there are many positive initiatives the Oireachtas and the Government can progress to help achieve a stable climate while helping all our communities build a clean, healthy and prosperous future, so we really hope you will take the opportunity to meet your TD.

Cyclist.ie are a member organisation of the Stop Climate Chaos NGO coalition and will have representatives in Buswells on the day to offer any assistance.
