How the Dutch deal with dangerous drivers

This 5-minute video shows how a dangerous driver is treated by both justice system and the public in Holland. Quite a lesson for our authorities.

Award winning outdoor child minding service uses delivery bike

Dublin, 7 April 2011. Children should be playing outside. Research shows it increases their physical and mental health. That's why Caitriona Walsh set up 'Little Green Fingers', Ireland's first child minding service that does all its activities outdoors. Recently, Little Green Fingers was awarded the Early Childhood Ireland Innovation Award.

Like normal childcare facilities, Little Green Fingers helps develop the children's with literacy and numeracy games, such as 'number treasure hunts', telling stories, and rhyme exercises. The difference is: Little Green Fingers does it all outside. They use a Dutch delivery bicycle (by bear bicycles) to transport the children - to the beach, woods, or excursions. Trips in the delivery bicycle are spent singing, pointing, and discussing surroundings. Special outdoor waterproof clothing keeps the children comfortable, regardless of the weather, and specially designed cameras allow them to document their outdoor adventures each day.

Support a good policy measure

Calling all Dublin cyclists! The National Transport Authority's (NTA's) draft Strategy needs our support. It's a Strategy which sets out how transport should be developed over the next 19 years in the Greater Dublin Area. See www.2030vision.ie/. The NTA are currently seeking public feedback, then a revised version will be passed to Minister Varadker for ratification. Use the attached text to send YOUR support!

Helmet debate spreads in UK

Cycling groups launch petition against Northern Ireland bike helmet law (Matthew Sparkes, Guardian)

Please help defeat short-sighted legal measure in NI

Hi to all cyclists,

The Dublin Cycling Campaign agrees that helmets can be useful for some cyclists. However we're against the introduction of mandatory cycle helmets, because helmet law has been shown to discourage cycling, and because we believe that cyclists wearing helmets can actually be at increased risk.

Please help us counter the mandatory helmet law currently being pushed through in Northern Ireland. It will reduce cycling numbers which will disimprove overall public health. Info on the law available here
